How Joomla is Changing the Internet, and the World

from:

That may sound like a very bold and all-encompassing statement, but it happens to be true. It’s no secret that the Internet now embraces virtually every segment of our modern, high-tech society. So, any software package that is both free and allows for the easy construction of a dynamic website is going to influence a lot of people. Originally, Joomla was created to be a Content Management Services package (CMS). Now it has grown into a huge library of extensions and applications – all available through the website extension.joomla.org – and a vast support and development staff. As they are available to help with its applications, and are constantly working on improvements and enhancements, Joomla is a very dynamic software package.

Where once you could have standalone applications in your website, those days are fading into the past. With Joomla, it has a new and easy to understand method for using the Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern of website design. As a result, the programmer you use to create your website must write their code in more manageable and scalable sections. The end result of all this is that your development costs are lower, your website is much more stable and easy to adapt to changes in the market, and the code is reusable. If the code is in small, easy to define packets, you can easy do a cut and paste from one site to another.

One of the pluses of the current version of Joomla (1.5 is out now) is that it’s not just a modification of the previous version. How often have you heard of bugs and glitches showing up within months of a new version of some software coming out? With Joomla 1.5, it’s a completely new system developed by the Core Development Team. Their goal was simple: make a powerful software package that would increase web developer productivity, and give users the best experience possible.

One central weakness to some software packages – particularly those for use on the Internet is that they try to be all things for all people. Joomla doesn’t fall into that trap! It serves as the foundation for your website design, and allows you to add in various kinds of third party website applications. The programmers have worked to insure that Joomla 1.5 can support technologies like PHP and MySQL, to name only two.

Now, while Joomla 1.5 isn’t compatible with the older versions of Joomla, that is not a problem for users. Some people feel that they should just maintain their old system. After all, if it’s working right, why change? The answer is as simple as the Internet itself – it’s a dynamic world, not a static one. If you’re not moving forward, you’re falling behind. If you want to stay current with what’s going on, and maintain and increase your client base, you have to grow and develop along with it. With Joomla 1.5, there are a whole host of extensions and applications you can use in it, and this list will only continue to grow with time.

Given the current state of the economy, many people are turning to the Internet as a means of making ends meet, or even launching a new career. Whether you’re an architect or a writer, you can have clients from Australia to England. Finding, pleasing and keeping these clients means having a website that is flexible and easy to adapt to the changing marketplace. That is the true power of Joomla; it’s simple, easy to use, and supports literally thousands of third party applications that can make your website unique. To survive in the global marketplace, you must standout from the crowd; Joomla can do that for you.
