Connecting Viral Marketing and Blogging

from:

Viral marketing is quite arguably the most effective marketing strategy of recent times. There is no other marketing strategy in the last decade that has gained so much widespread attention. The idea of viral marketing is exactly what the name implies – it is viral and catches on quickly, gaining widespread attention and focus. In viral marketing, as in any other form of marketing, in viral marketing, there are many ways do it and to keep it interesting. In viral marketing, your goal is to attract and retain the customer’s attention as much as possible. In order to do this, you must be creative and find ways to capture your reader’s interest without being too obvious or too over-bearing. One way to do this is by way of blogging and blogging platforms.

In blogging, your idea can catch on and become viral instantly. This is done through blogging and blog commenting on blogs that relate directly to your niche market. They key is to find new and innovative ways to post valid, targeted comments to blog posts that are directly related to the personality of your blog, product, or service. It is very important to ensure that you do not leave a comment that is generic or has a "canned" feel to it. This can be easily interpreted as spam and can be discarded by many anti-spam programs and by the blog’s owner. Simply take the necessary time to find out the name of the blog post author, and then address your comment specifically to him or her, and also be specific about how your information is important and can be relevant to the nature of their blog.

Also, do not simply leave an URL without giving a few details as to why the blog’s visitors should take the time to visit it. When you leave an URL with a few short words, it is considered spam and is frowned upon heavily. However, if you do leave a well-thought, well put together note along with your contact URL, your contact information and all of that along with the information you are trying to virally spread – it is likely that other blog visitors will visit your site and the blog owner may send you a personal reply. This is exactly the type of traffic that you want to target towards your blog to find visitors.

Theoretically, if you set a goal of leaving 15-20 well-targeted comments a day to highly visited blogs, you have the beginnings of a viral campaign. To keep everything organized, keep a log of the sites that you have commented on to avoid duplicating the efforts on those sites. This type of goal setting will help ensure that you are making quality connections with those blog owners and that you are targeting those blogs that are within your niche.

Finally, in addition to ensuring that you have a quality connection with the sites, check the ranking on those sites too in order to verify that your work is not in vain. Check sites like Technorati to see how many other blogs link to them and to see what their blog ranking is. The higher the blog ranking is, the better the quality of the link is. This is insurance that your links will not be fruitless or go unnoticed.
