Determining What to Cover on Niche Marketing Websites
from:Once an Internet marketer is aware of the need to start a narrowly focused website, the next step is to determine what exactly to cover on that site. There are a few steps to take to answer this question. The first question to answer is what will sustain the site’s owner and content writers through the creation of an entire site. Designing and writing a site can take months to launch, and new content needs to be added daily, or at least weekly, to be effective in today’s Internet market. That means the topic of the site should be interesting to the people who will be doing this work. A niche sports site sounds great, but if no one wants to write about cricket, then the site will not do well.
The next major question in determining what to cover on niche marketing websites is what content readers want to see. Many free and easy-to-use tools are available for Internet marketers who want to find trends to cover on their websites. Using sites such as WordTracker will give an idea of the words and phrases people search for in relation to the larger topic. Google’s keyword analysis tool as well as Google Trends gives larger pools of data and includes related searches and the rate of searches throughout the year to help people who are interested determine what people who are interested in the larger topic want to find.
Gardening as a large topic is well covered, and this is an area where new sites are narrow in scope. By using trend and keyword-tracking software, users can determine what within gardening people are considering. Xeriscapes are a specific type of garden in the American West, for example, and there may be enough people searching for information on this unique gardening style to warrant a website. Niche marketing is most successful when there are enough people searching for terms related to the niche topic.
After determining the site owner’s desires and potential user desires, the next step is deciding how much content will be available on the topic. Niche marketing works only when a site can provide fresh content. Without good content, there is nothing to distinguish one site from another, and thus, there is no reason for readers to return to the site. Sketching out the topics to be covered on the site for at least the first few months is crucial to choosing the right topic. Nothing kills a niche marketing site more than to set up the site and then have nothing to add to the discussions already online about the topic.
With these issues covered, a site’s topic and direction should become clear, and a savvy Internet marketer will see a way to make his site successful among the scores of other sites out there on the same larger topic. This triad of determinations – the owner’s interest, readers’ interest, and content availability – should help narrow a very large topic into something more manageable to cover, making a site a niche success.
